A home that makes you slow down and create

Jeska Hearne

Today we have an opportunity to look at the unique home of the talented Jeska, the author of  Lobster and Swan. She and her husband Dean live on East Sussex coast of England. So sit comfortably and imagine you are far away from the big cities, you can hear the sea from the open window, you can smell freshly made coffee and taste spiced brownies.  You are at a home that makes you slow down and encourages you to create.

It is very difficult to choose pictures to describe Jeska’s home as they are all so beautiful and inspirational. Today Jeska kindly shared with us  some of them. For more, please visit her blog.

What is a home?
The place where you feel completely at ease and relaxed.
What is your inspiration while creating your home?
Displaying collected treasures and using old things that have been handed down or new things that are designed well.
Do you have a particular thing you like the most?
An old oak table that is paint marked and worn, we use it as a desk, table, and a place to shoot photos for our online store. I love it’s marks and the beautiful grain that shows through, where is has been scrubbed clean so many times.
Is your home missing any piece of furniture, artwork which you are dreaming to have one day?
A big squashy sofa to melt into, we have had many lovely hand me down sofas, and now have one that is new and useful as a spare bed for guests but I am yet to own my perfect sofa.
With what smell or what recipe do you associate your home with?
Coffee being ground and a big batch of brownies baking. A coffee made from scratch every morning is a ritual in our home and I love to whip up a batch of spiced brownies when the weather turns cold.
 And what about sound?
I love to throw open the windows and listen to the birds and the sea here, and the humming sounds of the neighbours mowing lawns in the summer. For music anything by First Aid Kit – I am so obsessed with them right now!
